Welcome

Welcome to Neuromics, a research project funded by the European Commission for five years.

In reality, so-called rare diseases are anything but rare. 6-8% of the European population – between 27 and 36 million people – are affected by one of the 5000-8000 distinct rare diseases. Diagnosis, treatment, therapy and research are far from established and therefore require close cooperation between specialists from a wide variety of disciplines.

Neuromics studies 10 rare neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases with the aims to:

  1. find novel disease-causing genes
  2. improve diagnostics
  3. develop novel therapies for these disorders

The project brings together the important stakeholders in the field, from researchers, clinicians, bioinformaticians, patients, and ethics experts to SMEs. I hope that you will find the details of the project and the progress updates on this site of interest. Please do sign up to our 6-monthly newsletter and let us know if you have any questions or comments. Any research groups, patient organisations or other stakeholders who would like to become more involved with the project, perhaps even as associated partners, are most welcome to get in touch to discuss possible future opportunities and collaborations.

Thank you for your interest in Neuromics – I know that together we will make a difference.

With best wishes
