Alessandra Ferlini is a professor in medical genetics, director of the Medical Genetics section at the University of Ferrara (Italy), and coordinator of the previously EU funded FINGER (1999-2002) and BIO-NMD (2009-2012) projects. Her experience is in genetics of muscular disorders, and she leads both research and innovative molecular diagnosis projects. She also leads the research on antisense oligonucleotides and innovative delivery methods, as nanomaterials. Within the context of the EU, she participated as Telethon representative to the TREAT-NMD (as also member of the ethical committee), she is now a member of the TREAT-NMD alliance , she is in the research committee of the European Neuro Muscular Centre (ENMC), and partner of the NMD-CHIP EU project. She is granted by the Telethon Italy and other National funds. The Medical Genetics Unit belongs to the clinical Department of Reproduction and Growth, which is a Clinical Trial site for conducting clinical trials in paediatric population (Prosensa, GSK). Day Surgery for skin-muscle biopsy, Paediatric and Neurological assessment, clinical facilities for paediatric patients.
