In 2005, Bas got his bachelor’s degree in Molecular Life Sciences at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Bas received his master’s degree “with honor” (cum laude) in Bioinformatics in 2007. During his master’s Bas worked with Dr. Gijs Schaftenaar in the Computational Drug Discovery group at the Center for Molecular and Biomolecular Informatics (CMBI). Using molecular dynamics Bas investigated ligand binding pocket conformations in the Nuclear Receptor family and this resulted in a thesis titled “The detection of new active site conformations using molecular dynamics and rotamer assignments”. Bas completed his PhD thesis (“Data integration in the life sciences – A protein family-based approach”) with Professor Gert Vriend at the CMBI in april 2012. During his PhD study Bas investigated novel ways of integrating and disseminating heterogenous data in the life sciences. Since september 2011 Bas is working with Bio-Prodict.
